A Short Introduction by E. Lewis Evans

During my salad days in school, I was somewhat conflicted about which direction I wanted my career to go after college. I really enjoyed writing, but I was also very devoted to art. The former took more conscious discipline; the latter tapped more directly into my subconscious creative pool. I found poetry to be a happy medium between the two. It allowed me to paint situational mindscapes and spiritual portraits with words. I loved the broad palette of expressive possibilities that poetry offered which challenged both mind and soul.

I've never been one to follow rules too closely -- I often find orthodox adherence to them creatively stifling -- but I do realize that even for a few new rules to be made, some old rules must give way. Therefore, I acknowledge really only two golden rules of poetry (and I believe this pertains to all forms of art as well), and that is: first, be true to your own vision, whether or not others share it, abhor it or just ignore it; second, and this is the most important rule, don't BS yourself -- you'll know it, even if others don't.

That second rule is sometimes the hardest one to keep, because often wanting to be part of popular culture and trends sometimes makes one forget that true art often requires stripping oneself naked in the thorny public square of popular culture and mooning the gods of conformity. That is in direct contrast to the unchallenged, comfortable, cud-chewing, herd-pandering, instant gratification "for the masses" kind of art. But the irony of it all is that often those who first swam against the tide are the ones who are sometimes most responsible for creating popular culture in the first place, and then they have the choice of either abandoning it when it becomes too "acceptable" or embracing its comforting and familiar limitations. In other words, we hate our parents until we become them.

In summation, being an artist doesn't really require one to be liked or understood in order to be triumphant in one's calling. Artists just need to be able to wake up in the morning and look into the bathroom mirror while asking themselves -- am I being honest? That's all. What more can anyone ask of oneself? What more does anyone really need to ask?  ~ E. Lewis Evans

Some of My Beaded Jewelry Designs (For Display Purposes Only)

BEADED JEWELRY DESIGNS. For Display Purposes Only. I am no longer in the beaded jewelry business. The inventory was just too damn expensive to keep up since I used only genuine stones and not the cheap plastic faux beads too many people wear nowadays. Besides, my art work and writing projects keep me too busy to devote much time to it anymore. I did enjoy the creative challenges though. Some people have asked me to share some of my past work here for those who are interested in beaded jewelry designs. So here it is. REMEMBER: None of this is for sale...all gone...sorry. Just for show. BEST WATCHED IN HD SETTING (found at the bottom right-side of the player as the little gear symbol), and make sure to view this in FULL SCREEN (best for detail). Thanks!

**************************************

This book contains instructional text, helpful hints, and many examples of 3D anaglyphic photography which were created on a home PC using a series of two photographs for each subject. The majority of these were taken using an ordinary single aperture digital camera without any special 3D lens attachments. For the purposes of comparison and contrast, also included are several examples of 3D anaglyphs using a dual aperture digital camera.

As described in the book, in detail, a manual "offset" method of composing shots and creating 3D anaglyph photos from those dual photo sets was employed in each instance by using a single aperture camera. Most people reading this probably own a single aperture digital camera -- even a camera phone would work. This book demonstrates that anyone can make great anaglyph photographs without having to buy expensive 3D photographic equipment.

e-Book Length and Contents:
160 pages -- including approximately 145 Photographs

REQUIRES RED/CYAN 3D VIEWING GLASSES...

Those are the most common 3D viewing glasses in use for over sixty years. These particular 3D glasses consists of a Red left lens and Blue-green right lens. Many are under a dollar on the Internet; also available on Amazon, as well as at most comic book and toy stores. Some might prefer the paper frames with red/cyan gel film lens as the more expensive red and blue hard lens are often too dark and may cause too much ghosting for some people's taste.

TO BE VIEWED ON COLOR e-READERS ONLY...

Not for black and white e-readers. Because this is a 3D anaglyph photography book -- which uses color separation in order to create the 3D effect -- it must be viewed on a color Kindle e-book reader or similar full color e-book readers and computers.

An Artist's Statement

by "Bud" E. Lewis Evans M.A. (Studio Art)

The product of an artist's life demands notice, just as an author's stories beg to be told. That is the nature of all storytellers. I believe that art is both feeling and knowing; it is part history and prophecy; it is both legacy and change. Thus books are written; stories are told; sculpture and painting abound to chronicle the artist's journeys within, and to share his reflections with those who will not or cannot traverse their own mind-scapes.

I believe that an artist is supposed to be, by both nature and design, especially equipped to thrust his consciousness into the very fabric of his being. He must be free to labor and to give birth to the amalgam of his heart and intellect -- with no need to justify it and without ever having to reason why. Art is what defines him; it is who he is, not just what he does.
